Washington, D.C. — March 25, 2025 — The Bioeconomy Information Sharing and Analysis Center (BIO-ISAC) convened policymakers, industry leaders, and cybersecurity experts on Capitol Hill for a critical briefing on cyberbiosecurity—the emerging field at the intersection of cybersecurity and the life sciences. The briefing featured Ed Chung from Black Mesa, a member of BIO-ISAC, and underscored the urgent need for robust security measures to protect the bioeconomy from cyber threats and safeguard the integrity of biotechnological advancements.
With rapid innovations in biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and genomic data processing, the risks of cyber intrusions, intellectual property theft, and biosecurity vulnerabilities have never been greater. BIO-ISAC’s briefing provided congressional staff and key stakeholders with insights into the latest threats, regulatory considerations, and strategies for mitigating cyber risks in the biotech and life sciences sectors.
"As biological data and digital systems become increasingly interconnected, cyberbiosecurity is no longer optional—it is essential to national security and economic competitiveness," said Whitney Zatzkin, Director at BIO-ISAC.
BIO-ISAC continues to lead efforts in cyberbiosecurity by providing intelligence sharing, workforce training, and confidential coordinated response for cybersecurity incidents affecting the bioeconomy. The organization remains committed to collaborating with policymakers and industry partners to enhance resilience against emerging threats.
